日本語
Japanese class is dragging on...
I haven't updated much about it cause the teacher doesn't give me time to learn or even understand exactly what she's explaining.
Tonight we had a new revelation. The が .
Until today the one grammatical particle you had to put everywhere was は. Tonight we found examples in the book with this が and you think she explained to us what is it?
No, of course not!
We just got told that when saying things like 'Tanaka-san ga kimashita', you can't omit the が.
WTF, I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW I HAD TO PUT IT THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!
*is confuzzled and annoyed*

This is why I think that I'll continue learning japanese on my own, with a grammar book and sites.
The course will end in 2 weeks and a new one will start immediately afterwards, but I really don't feel like spending 300€ for stuff that I have to understand and learn on my own anyway.

In other, fandom news... Raise your hand if this pic creeped the hell out of you.
It looks like one of those chairs for people with spine immobility O_O
And while looking at the blog to link the post I found Miki on there... she's such a good girlfriend, she went to see his rehearsals? XD

Anyway, I realized I've been post-poning watching too many things and now the pile of drama/movies/plays I have to cacth up to is getting out of hand.
So, in my indecision I'm asking for your help ^^;

What should I watch first? ) Too lazy to switch to Rich text and make a poll)
Sohji (historical play with Yanagi)
☆ Tokyo Ghost Trip
☆ Takumi-kun movie
☆ Yukan Club (promised Chris I'd do it ^^;)
☆ Higamyu
☆ Not of them above! You should watch... (specify in comments :P )

Thanks! ^^

Haven't watched Yukan Club and I'm still DL-ing Higamyu..

Ga is used instead of wa. It is usually used when using suki (like) or other suggestions of preference. Also used with aru/iru usually.

My tutor told me, though, that if you want to STRESS something, you would use wa when you would normally use ga, and use ga when you normally would use wa.

I'm sorry the class isn't that good. Don't give up!

The thing is that I'm stressing over 'ga' when she didn't even looked it twice, she just moved on and ignored the fact we obviously had never seen that particle before.
I really think that studying by mysel fon books, sites and the suggestions you guys give me will create much less confusion...

Thank you so much! <3

They say the 'ga' is one if the most confusing parts in studying Japanese. :|

I'm ashamed of myself. Out of the 5, I've only watched 1. And what's more shameful is that that 1 is Yukan Club. *headdesks 500x*

The way I remember when ga is used is when the subject is not clear, so say someone asked 'Who went to Okinawa?', the reply would have to be 'Katie GA Okinawa ni ikimashita', not 'wa' or that'd just be a statement. It's weird and there's nothing like it in English, except the tones in which you say the sentence I guess. But yeah, ga is quite confusing at first, it never got really explained to us either if I remember, it just got introduced with 'suki desu', I don't know if you've done that yet but you probably will soon.

Aaah, that chair in Yaangi's blog is a massage chair! They have them everywhere in Japan, they look scary but they're actually amazing!

The Takumi-kun movie isn't fantastic so I'd put that last, even though I know next to nothing about the others :D But you should watch Delicious Gakuin if you haven't already, that's definitely something that needs to be pimped :D

Put it this way it's a bit clearer. We didn't get to 'Suki desu' but the example was pretty similar to what you posted. It was in a lesson about indefinite pronouns and it was something along the lines of 'Did anyone visited yesterday' and the answer was 'Tanaka-san ga kimashita'.

Thank you! ♥

Oooh, I see. Lol, good to know! I wouldn't mind one of those XD

I started watching DG raw but since my jap knowledge was... none XD I gave up on it pretty quickly. If I watch Yuichi I like to revel in every little thing that pretty face says XD

Uh, I don't think I can be of much help with the 'ga' since I'm self-taught, most of the theory is a mistery to me XD But from what I can tell, 'ga' usually indicates the subject, while 'wa' indicates what you're talking about (this is such a confusing thing, really.) In her example, "Tanaka-san ga kimashita" = "Tanaka-san came/has come", in which Tanaka-san is the subject of the sentence without a doubt. But that's really confusing because sometimes 'wa' follows the subject as well - I suppose there's a difference, but since that different doesn't exist in our language, we translate it the same way so it's confusing @_@ I thought I had a post about this in my memories but I can't find it ;_; Sorry!

DID YOU SEE THERE ARE NINE NEW PAGES OF LOVELESS *___________* AND THEY'RE ACTUALLY NON-FILLER! And they seem to be introducing some new action so they still don't make much sense but still *_____*

I'll reply to your e-mail later, by the way <3

Confuzzled is just about my favorite word. Reminds me that I should use it more often.

If I've never mentioned before, I like updates on your Japanese lessons. I always learn something new from them.

That chair doesn't scare me, but then my tastes are kind of weird. ^^;

And cool, more stuff to watch, thanks. I'm afraid I don't have any suggestion for you, though, since I myself kind of need help sorting out my own drama watching.

[info]_ayumix_

It took me FOREVER to figure out wa and ga (I'm self taught)

Here is what I learned:

WA is used when stating the OVERALL topic of conversation. EX: Kyou wa Tokyo ni ikimasu. "Today" is the topic of the conversation. You don't have to say "Kyou wa" again because it's already been established as the topic of conversation. When the topic changes again, you use "wa" again.

Now here's ANOTHER way to use "wa"; To show contrast.

EX: biru wa nomimasen demo wain wa nomimasu.

I don't drink beer but I drink wine.

Now as far as "ga" is concerned, well, it's the topic of the SENTANCE as opposed to the conversation. You CAN use both -- but "wa" always comes before the "ga" -- because you're stating the conversation's topic.

EX: kyou wa watashi ga Ikebukuro ni ikimashita.

Today I (was the one who) went to Ikebukuro.

"Today" is the conversation's topic, "I" is the sentences topic.

Now there are times when the subject of the convo is ALSO the subject of the sentence. In this case, you only use wa. In the cases of your class, this is what happened. The topic of the sentance and the topic of the conversation were one in the same, so "wa" is used.

EX: watashi wa ureshiidesu.

As far as "punctuating" the topic and when wanting to bring extra attention to it, you use "ga".

EX: Yuuichi ga sushi wo tabemashita

Yuuichi (was the one who) ate sushi.

I hope this helps. It took me several books and A LOT of listening to catch these subtle differences.

Good luck! :3

(We should practice together sometime)
